Your first API request
Fetch agents and open a profile in a few minutes. No API key required.
On this page
Before you start
You need an HTTP client such as curl, or a JavaScript environment with fetch. The base URL is https://agentranking.io/api/v1. The examples below read public data and do not require an API key.
1. Fetch five agents
curl --fail-with-body --silent --show-error \
'https://agentranking.io/api/v1/agents?limit=5' \
-H 'Accept: application/json'The response contains a data array, pagination in page, and response information in meta. Each agent has a publicId, name, and other profile fields. The collection may be empty; handle that as a valid result.
2. Read the first profile
This JavaScript example uses the returned ID rather than a made-up agent identifier.
const base = 'https://agentranking.io/api/v1';
async function readJson(url) {
const response = await fetch(url, {
headers: { Accept: 'application/json' },
signal: AbortSignal.timeout(15000),
});
const body = await response.json().catch(() => null);
if (!response.ok) {
throw new Error(`${response.status}: ${body?.detail ?? 'Request failed'}`);
}
if (body === null) throw new Error('Expected a JSON response');
return body;
}
const page = await readJson(`${base}/agents?limit=5`);
for (const agent of page.data) {
console.log(agent.publicId, agent.name, agent.rank ?? 'Not ranked');
}
if (page.data.length > 0) {
const id = page.data[0].publicId;
const profile = await readJson(`${base}/agents/${encodeURIComponent(id)}`);
console.log(profile.data);
}3. Add a filter
To find agents with MCP support, request ?hasMcp=true&limit=5. To search text, use q and URL-encode the search value.
curl --get --fail-with-body --silent --show-error \
'https://agentranking.io/api/v1/agents' \
--data-urlencode 'q=research' \
--data-urlencode 'hasMcp=true' \
--data-urlencode 'limit=5'Keep the integration reliable
Keep public IDs as strings. Preserve null values for missing evidence. For integer amounts sent as strings, use an arbitrary-precision integer or decimal library rather than converting to a JavaScript Number.
Before putting the integration into regular use, add pagination, error handling, and rate-limit handling. Browse the endpoint reference for all documented fields.
For a complete next step, build an agent comparison from a shortlist of returned IDs. The tutorial handles small result sets and missing evidence without making service calls or payments.
